OBJECTIVE: Students will create an illustration that represents themselves, a friend, or a family member. Your portrait should visually tell your viewer a few things about this person. This does not necessarily mean that you need to draw/paint their portrait. How else can you create a “portrait” of someone without showing their face?
THOUGHTS TO GET YOU STARTED:
TIPS: Choose an compositional element to guide your art making, such as leading lines, diagonals, rule of thirds, symmetry, etc. Also, choose a principle of design/art to focus your work, such as emphasis, pattern, movement, space/scale, etc.
ARTIST EXAMPLES:
(Think about: What compositional elements and principles of design/art does the artist use well? How would this work of art be different if _______ (scale, focal point, symmetry, colors, etc.) were changed? What mood do you think the artist is trying to convey? How can you tell?
THOUGHTS TO GET YOU STARTED:
- What are three words you would use to define this person? How can you show this in your art?
