CHOICE PROJECT

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
CAN ART BE MADE OUT OF ANYTHING?
WHAT MAKES A WORK OF ART SUCCESSFUL?
STUDENT EXAMPLES
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Sometimes for your your final project, you will have the opportunity to choose both your medium and your subject matter. This is a great chance to explore a new or alternative media (popsicle sticks, dowels, books, paper sculpture, found objects, shadow boxes etc.) or to dive deeper into a media you love (clay, paper mache, etc.). This project should reflect your utmost ability to be creative while showcasing excellent craftsmanship.

REQUIREMENTS:
Prep (15 points):
  1. Research: Click on and explore the links posted below. Then spend some time online searching for projects/medias that inspire you. When you have chosen a media you'd like to work with, compile a document featuring at least 5 works of art created by others using your media of choice. - 5 points
  2. Exploration: If it is a new media, explore that media for a class period. Play with the media. Find out how it works. Figure out what kind of problems do you foresee having. How can you solve those problems? If it's a familiar media you may treat this step as a "mistake day." - 5 points
  3. Sketches: Create two sketches (one from each side) of what you anticipate your final project to look like. Submit your sketches to Ms. B prior to starting. Make changes to sketches if advised. - 5 points
Form (35 points):
  1. Subject: The final project reflects something about you -- your interests, hopes, dreams, fears, etc. - 10 points
  2. Craftsmanship: The final project is a reflection of your utmost ability to be neat and precise. - 15 points
  3. Creativity: The final project exhibits creativity and originality. You did not copy an example or another artist's work. - 10 points
Surface (25 points):
  1. Texture: Texture is neat, creative, and applicable to the subject and form. - 15 points
  2. Color: Colors choices make sense; colors are well blended (if applicable) and neat. - 10 points
Effort (20 points):
The student took time to develop their ideas fully.  Many new techniques were tried. The student made excellent use of class time - 20 points (10 or 5 points for lesser effort)

Reflection (5 points):
Self Reflection- 5 points

Total Points: 100
