CERAMIC CUBE

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
How does texture enhance an artwork? How does pattern enhance an artwork?​

STUDENT AND ARTIST EXAMPLES
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Create a 5" cube that features sculptural objects of things you like and things that make you YOU. You will convert the cube into a box. Each side must incorporate additive and subtractive textures. 

REQUIREMENTS:
Prep (10 points):
  1. Doc printed with 5 examples of textures and/or features you might like to recreate on project- 5 points
  2. Detailed drawings of at least 2 sides of the box. Must use resources when drawing - 5 points

Form (55 points):
  1. 5" and square. You must use tracers (5" square paper traced onto clay) - 10 points
  2. Composition is balanced - 5 points
  3. Lid is cut from cube - 5 points
  4. Surfaces are covered with additive and subtractive texture, patterns, or sculptural objects, some representing the student - 15 points
  5. Careful craftsmanship (no sloppy areas) - 20 points
  6. Feet - (5 extra credit points)

Surface (10 points):
  1. Glaze is carefully considered and applied - 10 points

Effort (20 points):
  1. The student took time to develop their ideas fully.  Many new techniques were tried. The student made excellent use of class time - 20 points (10 or 5 points for lesser effort)

​Reflection (5 points):
  1. Self Reflection- 5 points
